Doris McCabe Obituary
Doris Emmaline (Heintzelman) McCabe, 99, of Zionsville, PA, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Valley Manor Rehab and Care Center, Coopersburg. Born on November 14, 1925, she was the daughter of Phaon and Hattie (Nothstein) Heintzelman of Lehighton. She was the widow of Thomas J. McCabe, Jr., who passed away in 2007. They were married for over 50 years at the time of his death.
During her childhood, she helped out in the family's butcher business, Heintzelman's Meat Market, in Lehighton. She graduated from Lehighton Area High School in 1943 and attended Allentown Business School. She was employed as a secretary at Vail Chemical Company and John Hancock Insurance in Allentown for several years prior to her marriage.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially when the grandchildren and great grandchildren arrived. She loved to cook and could always be counted on to bake delicious pies for family events. Her grandchildren will always remember dyeing Easter eggs and baking Christmas cookies each year with Grammy. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 65 years and made many life-long friends along the way. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, word search puzzles, playing Rummikub and golf.
Doris was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Emmaus for over 20 years. She enjoyed participating in the Fall Fest events and the Helping Hands ministry.
She is survived by her sons: Bob and his wife, Margie McCabe, of Zionsville; Mark McCabe and his companion, Karen Richardson, of Turner, ME; Grandchildren: Brandon (Susan) McCabe; Steve (Alyssa) McCabe of Kutztown; Ben McCabe of Zionsville and Chloe (Aaron) Anthony of Illinois; Great Grandchildren: Summer Lovanh and Tommy McCabe, and Saoirse McCabe of Kutztown. She is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends who were very special to her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joel Heintzelman; Sisters-in-law, Evelyn Green and Cathy Szoldatits; Brothers-in-law, Earl Green and Alfonse Szoldatits.
Services: 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 415 S. 5th Street, Emmaus, PA. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the Funeral Home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
