William Rowe Obituary

Rowe, William R.
TROY - William R. "Bill" Rowe, 81, a lifelong resident of Tomhannock (T/O Pittstown), passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital, with his loving wife and family by his side, following a short illness.
Born in Troy, on August 22, 1943, Bill was the son of the late Robert and Eleonore (McCormick) Rowe; and the husband for 56 years of Judy (Treacy) Rowe of Tomhannock, who survives. Bill and Judy were married on September 21, 1968.
Bill was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and Canton Agricultural and Technical College (SUNY-Canton). In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army, was stationed in Europe as a Mechanical Specialist 5th Class, and honorably discharged in July of 1967. Upon returning home, he was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal. More recently, he was employed for over 33 years by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. (National Grid), at the Oakwood Ave. facility, where he worked his way up from custodian to mechanical shop foreman at the time of his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Bill enjoyed his small business of cutting, splitting, and delivering firewood to many families and friends, as well as attending wood shows throughout the northeast.
Among Bill's many hobbies and projects, his greatest love and pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He helped and encouraged them to become their own individual selves but remain a strong part of the Rowe family, through the bonds of hard work with him in the firewood business, in the raising of Galloway beef cows, showing of horses, and also in play, by just being silly together or by singing "little ditties" with Papa.
In addition to his wife, Judy, Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bub" and Melissa Rowe of Melrose; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and David Collins of Waterville; three cherished grandchildren, Matthew Rowe of Melrose, Eleonore Collins and Natalee Collins of Waterville; a nephew, David and wife, Jenifer of Nevada; a niece, Sharon, and her family in Florida; and his extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, John and Linda Rowe; their daughter, Jenny; his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Susan Treacy; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Beverly Treacy and Patty (Treacy) Hoodack; and his much loved and cherished grandson and buddy, William F. Rowe, who Bill referred to as "Mr. Jones."
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Transfiguration Parish South, 50 Hillview Dr., in Speigletown, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Bill will be celebrated by Fr. George Fleming, at noon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery in Schaghticoke.
