Lucrecia Pages Obituary

Lucrecia "Mercy" Pages, age 89 and a half years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Midlothian, VA. She is the wife and widow of Luis Pages of Ashburn, VA. They shared 55 years of marriage, three children and a large Cuban family.

She was born in Nueva Paz, Cuba, on November 23, 1934. She was one of seven children. Her parents were Emilio Rodriguez and Mercedes Perdomo. Growing up in the small, rural town of Nueva Paz, Mercy was surrounded by her siblings, many friends, especially her dear friends Doris and Victoria Pages (who later became her sisters-in-law). She was a Girl Scout, an active member of the local Presbyterian Church's Youth Group. She attended high school and began university studies but never finished. At the age of 22, she became a telephone operator for the Havana Telephone company where she made lifelong friends.

Luis began falling in love with Mercy in 1954. She was very serious and courting her was not easy at first. Luis had to prove his commitment and intent They were engaged for 5 years. In January 1958, Luis and Mercy got married in Nueva Paz, Cuba. Luis and Mercy had 2 children in Cuba, Myrna and Luis Emiio. In 1963, Mercy and Luis, separately, left Cuba to be reunited in the United States. Mercy left Cuba with the 2 children to Spain where she awaited to be approved to emigrate to the USA. Alone in Spain, she spent 3 months living in hostels with her children. On November 19, 1963, she arrived in NYC and was reunited with Luis. They settled In Falls Church, VA to raise their family. In 1966, the family grew with the birth of their third child Mercedes. By the 1970's, Mercy was working for Fairfax County Public Schools. She worked there for 25 years, retiring as the School Board Payroll Supervisor. For many years, Luis and Mercy were very active members at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Annandale, Va.

Together in retirement, Mercy and Luis traveled the world visiting many countries, among their favorites: Spain, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Costa Rica, Greece, the Caribbean islands, the Virgin Islands, and throughout the USA.

The last years of her life, Mercy spent in Ashburn, VA where she volunteered locally knitting clothing for the needy. She also attended Riverside Presbyterian Church Ashburn, VA, In 2020, she relocated to Powhatan, VA, living with Myrna and Steve where she became a beloved member of their community. Living in Powhatan, she attended Passion Community Church for several years.

Mercy is survived by her children Myrna (Steve Barr), Luis (LoJuanna), Mercedes (Greg Kelly); 7 grandchildren - Hunter Pages (Katherine); Bailey (Daniel Gaspari), Dylan Barr (Isabel) Miriam Pages, Dalton Barr, Grant Kelly, Lucas Kelly and one great granddaughter, Gwen Pages.

Mercy will be laid to rest next to her husband Luis, at Fairfax Memorial Gardens, on April 18th, 2024; located at 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22032. Viewing/Visitation will be held 12-1pm, the Celebration of Life Service 1-2pm and Burial following at 2pm.

We were so sorry to hear about Abuela's passing. She was such a sweet lady, always with a smile. We will miss seeing her at family gatherings. Prayers for your family.
