Richard C. Gingrich, 92, of Sterling died Saturday January
6, 2024 at his home.
He was born on February 6, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Clair and Bernice (Anderson) Gingrich. He served in the US Army Security Agency during the Korean War. Richard married the former Lauretta M. Green on February 8, 1964 in Morrison.
He was a 1949 graduate of Kewanee High School and a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography. He was a self-employed photographer having operated Gingrich Photography in Sterling for twenty years. He later worked at Tri-County Opportunities Council. He was generous with his time, serving as a volunteer for many organizations including FISH, Salvation Army, Big Brothers, Tri-County, and Lifescape and was also a member of the Sterling American Legion. He was an avid tennis player, "retiring" from the game on his 88 th birthday. Survivors include his wife, Lauretta; their children: Galen (Kelli) Gingrich of Bartonville, Jon (Melanie Kyle) Gingrich of Weymouth, MA and Matt (Teresa) Gingrich of Sterling; 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
No services will be scheduled and cremation will take place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Sterling Schools Foundation (www.sterlingschoolsfoundation.org).
