Lee Runsdorf Obituary

RUNSDORF--Lee Renner. Lee Renner Runsdorf, a leader in New York's diamond district, passed away peacefully at age 93 on January 21, 2024 in Rye, NY. Born in Brooklyn on October 23, 1930, he was a lifelong New Yorker whose legacy will endure through the many lives he impacted. Lee was a leading figure in the New York City Jewelry industry for many generations. He was a mentor and role model to many, generously giving of himself with his wisdom, kindness and humor. Lee lived a life filled with love, laughter, and profound personal connection. He cherished Lucette, his wife and constant companion for 63 years. He was a devoted, endlessly supportive father to Elise Napack (Brian) and the late Jim Runsdorf (Nina). He was a devoted brother to Sylva Mae Greenberg, a loving uncle to Fran Hirmes and Jeffrey Greenberg, and an adoring grandfather to Alexa, Kate, Ella and Graham. After growing up in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, Lee earned his degree from Brooklyn College. Lee proudly served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne division of the Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Beyond his professional life, Lee Runsdorf was an avid photographer, accomplished equestrian, and enthusiastic world traveler. He will be remembered by all for his remarkable ability to make those around him feel valued and loved In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jim Runsdorf Endowment at the Center for Public Service at Tulane University.

He looked so good astride a horse but, looking good was never a problem. All three of my children claimed him as their godfather and he treated them as his own. We loved him as much as he loved Lucette, Elise, Brian, Jim, Alexa, Kate, Graham and Ella. We know that he has left his good name as an inheritance
for his friends and family. If you are a believer then you will be happy to know that he is now reunited with Jim as well as Teddy and Pauline.

I knew my life was going to be successful when Lee took me to a Jet game at Shea & bought us hot dogs, and the change he got was silver quarters that were worth 5x the cost of all our dogs
