James Pitre Obituary

James Pitre 'Jimmy', better know to the Residents of St Bernard Parish as 'Bay-bee' decided on October 9 at 8:00 am to close his eyes and begin to build a mansion in the Heaven. Jimmy was born October 24th, 1958 to Earl and Joyce Pitre. Brother to Cynthia Pitre Coker (deceased) and Terrance Pitre. The Pitre family lived in St Bernard Parish where Jimmy met the Love of his Life, Nora Maitrejean Pitre. They shared in many of adventures in life including singing on street cars, dancing the night away, and going to jail for trying to outrun the cops on their first date. Nora's dad wasn't so sure about his saint-like daughter dating this long haired, cigarette smoking, Grand Torino driving Rebel, but Nora had her mind made up. They got married the day after she graduated from high school and have spent a life enjoying each other ever since. Together, they raised their wonderful daughters Jeanne' Pitre and Jennifer Pitre Stewart (Garrett) and are blessed with 6 of the most precious grandchildren Madi, Leah, Chad, Presley, Molly, and Reid. Jimmy was amongst the most talented craftsman that one would ever meet. He could do anything from install a floor, to build an entire house by hand. Jimmy was one tough, crazy cajun, but was also one of the most kind human beings on the planet. There was no such thing as a stranger. Anyone who knew him knew how much he loved them, his family, and especially his woman. Jimmy was every aspect of the word hero. During hurricane Katrina he stayed behind and rescued hundreds of people from the flood waters. To have known him, love him or hate him, was to have known a strong, courageous, outspoken, hard working, crazy, enduring, man of God who broke mold and then resculpted it into a masterpiece. There never will be another quite like him. The family will be hosting a celebration of life on October 21 from 12:00-3:00 pm at The First Baptist Church of Chalmette 305 E St Bernard Hwy Chalmette 70043. The eulogy will be read at 12:30 followed by fellowship in the meeting hall. It's not that life is short, it's that we waste so much time not living, not loving, and not fulling our purpose. In leu of flowers and in memory of Jimmy, make sure your family and friends know are loved and cherished, smile at a stranger, mend any broken relationships. For the past is History, our tomorrows remains a mystery, and all we truly have is the present, so treat the Present Time as Gift. Bay-Bee.
