James Morton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 9, 2025.
Dr. James Robert "Doc" Morton, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Yuba City, California. Born on April 22, 1929, in Carrington, North Dakota, Jim lived a long and meaningful life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Jim devoted over three decades of his life to medicine as a physician at the Marysville Medical Group. His passion for healing and helping others left a lasting impression not only on his patients but also within his own family. That legacy of care continues through several of his children and grandchildren who followed his footsteps into the medical field.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. He found great joy in the simple pleasures-especially a good round of golf. For many years, he could be found three times a week playing at Peach Tree Golf Course with his beloved brother John. Even into his early 90s, Jim's love for the game never waned. His travels took him around the world, where he delighted in exploring new places and teeing off on unfamiliar greens.

A lifelong student of history and medicine, Jim was known for sharing fascinating stories and insights with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These moments were more than just lessons-they were cherished connections that bridged generations.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Ellen Morton; his three children and their spouses: John Morton (Tammie), Greg Morton (Catherine), and Jane Kuwata (Dave); his three stepchildren: Michael Dickerson (Mollie), Richard Dickerson, and Terry Dickerson; and his 7 grandchildren Jessica Orvis, Michael Dickerson, Jennifer Brothers, Jeffrey Morton, Tony Dickerson, Rachel Morton, and Jake Kuwata. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren who will carry forward the values he instilled-kindness, curiosity, resilience, and love.

Jim was preceded in death by Carol Morton.

To those who knew him best, Jim was more than a physician or golfer-he was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, healer, teacher, and inspiration. He modeled how to live with purpose and grace: to love unconditionally and support without hesitation.

Though we mourn this profound loss deeply, we are forever grateful for the time we shared with such an extraordinary man. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire generations to come.

Honoring Jim's wishes we will be foregoing a memorial service at this time.
