Eula West Obituary
Eula Duncan West, passed away peacefully Friday November 10, 2023 at Rose Hill Retirement Community under the care of Care Partners of McDowell County.
She was 88 years old and was born on April 11, 1935 in Burke County to the late David Lester Duncan and Emmer Elizabeth Garmon Duncan.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband George Martin West, Jr. Eula Mae was the sixth child of 11 born to Lester and "Lizzie." She was also preceded in death by six brothers McKinley, Ralph, Theodore "Ted", David T. "Bill", Jerry and Joe as well as her older sister Jeanette Duncan Baron.
Surviving Eula Mae are her three younger sisters; Sally Duncan Sunquist (Bob) of Seattle Washington, Margaret Duncan Kisor (Lee) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Bertha Duncan Tignor (Sam) of McLean, Virginia, in addition to a number of surviving nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her children Junine Childers Adkins (Terry), Rita Childers Canipe (Bryan) and Nathan Childers (Jeanette); 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Adkins (Kim), Daniel Adkins (Amanda), Cassidy Canipe Lackey (Tanner), and Dr. Benjamin Canipe (Kelsey); 4 great-grandchildren, Charles David Adkins (Mackenzie), Daniel Joshua Adkins, Emma Gracie Adkins and Maggie Dittman Adkins; along with two great great grandchildren, Rylan David and Hallie Grace Adkins.
Mrs. West was also a lifelong attendee of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. She loved singing, taking walks in the country and visiting her friends and family. She will be greatly missed but we rejoice with her because we know she is the happiest she has been in a very long time in Heaven. Eula Mae loved the Lord Jesus and was devoted to her precious husband George.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 P.M. Tuesday November 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, with Rev. David J. Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at the N.C. State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
