Joanne L. Tobiasz, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. She was the beloved wife of Edward A. Tobiasz who predeceased her in 1987. They were married for 36 years. Joanne was born in Springfield on May 31, 1934, to Fred L. and Doris I. (Wood) Antes. In addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her son, Paul Tobiasz, in 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Holyoke. Joanne was a longtime employee at the former Halmar Distributors in Holyoke and East Longmeadow and also was employed at Andercare where she helped the elderly. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Joanne enjoyed many things in life. Her interests included watching old movies, reading, shopping at the Holyoke Mall with her sister and friends, dining out, traveling, and relaxing with her dogs. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her family and doting over her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved hosting Christmas, attending picnics, parties and dance recitals as well as being outdoors. She is survived by her four children, Michael Tobiasz (Sue) of Holyoke, Thomas Tobiasz (Vicky) of Longmeadow, Daniel Tobiasz of Holyoke and Robert Tobiasz (Jennifer) of Southampton; her sister, Darlene Cournoyer of Holyoke; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Saturday, January 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke followed by an 11:00 a.m. service in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Since Joanne adored dogs, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St., Springfield, MA 01105.
