Paxton Wolfe Obituary

Paxton G. Wolfe was called home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at ManorCare of Carlisle. He was born Apr. 26, 1924 in Lancaster.

He was a 1942 graduate of McCaskey High School where he was the manager of the football team and a member of the National Honor Society. He was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Paxton served as a U.S. Coast Guard signalman on a cutter in the Atlantic and on a landing craft escort in the Pacific during World War II. Following his service, he graduated from Penn State University in 1950, earning a degree in Forestry. He was a lifetime Alumni Association member and a member of the Xi Sigma Pi and Alpha Phi Omega fraternities.

Paxton worked as the District Conservationist for Bradford and Sullivan counties for 22 years and later worked as the State Staff Forester for the USDA Soil Conservation Service, a position from which he retired in 1984.

He was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, teacher of the Men's Bible Class, and scouting coordinator. Other memberships included the Bradford Lodge 167 of the I.O.O.F. in Towanda, and the Eureka Lodge 302 F&AM in Mechanicsburg, the American and Pennsylvania Forestry Associations, the Society of American Foresters, the Soil Conservation Society of America, NARFE, and the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his children, Margie H. Fealtman (and husband, Barry) of Hampden Twp., John P. Wolfe (and wife, Joyce) of Albuquerque, NM, and Robert W. Wolfe (and wife, Mary) of Silver Spring, MD; three grandchildren, Jennifer Walsh (and husband, Tyson) and Jonathan and Jessica Wolfe of Albuquerque, NM; as well as his brother-in-law, Carl W. Stehman of Ft. Myers, FL; his nephew, Roger Stehman (and wife, Mary) of Aurora, IL; and niece, Cynthia Stehman of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Margie F. (Evans) Wolfe; and his sister, Jeanne Stehman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 18 at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church where there will be a viewing beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in Quarryville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
