William Malloy Obituary

William Joseph Malloy, 83, of Butler, was a vessel for the Lord, and on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, he peacefully went home to his Lord to rest with Him forever. He was surrounded by his many, many loved ones. In fact, the hospital staff had his room number memorized because of all the visitors he had. His room was full of music, prayers, tears, laughter and so much love.
William Joseph Malloy, the son of James and Josephine Malloy, was born on July 3, 1940, in Tarentum, Pa. He graduated from East Deer High School in 1958, and pursued the study of music at Duquesne University. He eventually enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years before marrying his devoted wife, Rita (Thimons) Malloy.
William and Rita married on Aug. 4, 1962, at St. Joseph Church in Natrona, Pa. Their love for each other is a beautiful example of a biblical love, following the qualities of love described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." In their 61 years of marriage, William and Rita exemplified this type of love and raised 11 children together. It was a joy to love, and to be loved, by William.
William worked in finance, eventually starting Butler Consumer Discount Company with his business partners in 1969. His work ethic and dedication to his business led him to be a respected businessman for five decades. He eventually sold this business to Northwest Bancorp, but continued to work there until his retirement in 2006.
The most prominent quality of William's life was his faith. He was very active in St. Paul Church as a cantor for 45 years. His passion was music, and William used his passion to glorify the Lord. He was also a leader of Light of the World Charismatic Community in Butler, as well as a minister of the Secular Franciscan Order with his best friend, Joe Savannah. He also shared his passion for the Lord by leading other groups, such as leader of Sword of the Spirit and Unbound, and being an active member of groups, including Peter's Shadow and People of God. All his life told of who Jesus is.
William loved playing cards, golfing, watching his beloved Steelers, listening to music and singing and being together with his family. This included attending sporting events, choral concerts, and whatever else his children or grandchildren were doing. He also loved cars and ensured, when his children or grandchildren were purchasing cars, he was the first person to see it. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He loved fellowship with friends. He had a way of making everyone feel loved and special.
William is remembered and deeply loved by his wife, Rita Malloy; and his eleven children, Jeanean Malloy, William (Rita) Malloy, Terry Smith, Maria Malloy, Scott Malloy, Joseph (Anne) Malloy, Rita (Chris) Rice, Catherine (Jason) Swope, Jeannie (Jerry) Gilkey, Anthony (Colleen) Malloy and Elizabeth (Chris) Monaco.
He is also survived by his siblings, Rita (Gary) Marvin, Cathy Malloy, Ed Malloy and Cathie Outerbridge; as well as his 36 grandchildren, Theresa, Geno, Jamie, Natalie, Jessica, James, Ryan, Katie, Jerrah, Conner, Allie, Brady, Derek, Julia, Anthony, Amanda, Victoria, Sean, Dylan, Josie, Nina, Mara, Colin, Tatum, Maddie, Nathan, Mya, Ella, Finley, Harper, Samantha, Lincoln, Cecelia, Jack, Lily and Brody; and his 10 great-grandchildren. He will be missed, but his memory and love will live on forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine (James) Malloy, who emigrated from England; as well as his parental in-laws, Joseph and Theresa Thimons; and his siblings, Irene (Paul) Cash, Jim (Anna Marie) Malloy, Connie Malloy, William "Bridges" Outerbridge; and son-in-law, Scott Smith.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 says "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…." We weep that he is gone, but we rejoice in knowing that he is being welcomed with open arms in paradise.
