So sad to hear of my half-sister Val's passing. Val shared the same father as me and my brothers, Bill and Keith though Val did not appear to know of us. We knew of Val's existence all of our lives, but living so far away in Northland and Auckland precluded visiting.
My and Dave's first and last meeting with Val in Lister Home in April this year wasn't long enough but we were so glad to meet Val and my niece Chris and husband Mike. We were fortunate to see Val's beloved home together with all the memories of her past. I will always remember the short time with family in Waimate as being a very precious time etched in my heart and memory forever.

To Val's family. I am so sorry to hear of Val's passing. She was a lovely cheerful lady. I always enjoyed her company when I came to do her nails.

Goodbye to my sweet gorgeous first cousin Valerie, I (and thanks to my partner Kate Lang) only just discovered in the last 2 odd years our fathers are brothers! I'm glad I made the trip down to meet you and Chris and Mike and Kelly and kids. You were so cute and so smiley and we got a photo taken on your couch and I had my arm around you- you patted my tummy and said "Oh you're a big boy!" - we both laughed! You spoke of President Pat- a family favourite horse. I'm glad we met I will cherish our brief first and last meeting (me at 71 you at 88 I think ?) forever my gorgeous newly discovered cousin. "Today I shed a tear into the ocean for you, and when I find that tear is when I will stop wishing my arm was still around you with your hand patting my tummy and calling me a big boy!" Lots of love and farewell my dear sweet gorgeous cousin, I will miss you forever! Love from Geoff (Toa) and Kate Lang. xxxxx
