Dear Ailsa, Colin, Maurice, Carolyn and families,
It is with the greatest sympathy we hear of the passing of Tom. To me, Tom was a favourite Uncle who always had a very astute view of things that were going on in the world. As a kid I enjoyed visiting the Hurst family immensely and got great amusement going out on the farm with Uncle Tom when he was working the sheep dogs moving stock. Toms style of bellowing out commands to the dogs was certainly unique, but it was very effective. Tom done so much for the betterment of the local community, the farming industry and the country and I firmly believe we are all lucky people to have had Tom in our lives.
I count myself as lucky to have met and talked with Tom a number of times in the last few years, I always enjoyed being with him. When I think of Tom, it reminds me of an old saying:
"Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of that candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared" This is Uncle Tom
