Shirley Avis: (RN, RM)
Unexpectedly but peacefully at Timaru Hospital on Saturday, August 22, 2020, in her 85th year. Dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Paul and Jill, Anne and Mike Greaney, and Allan and Caroline, and adored Grandma Shirley to Sam, and Skylar, and a friend to many.
Will be sadly missed
Messages to: The Garnett Family, c/- PO Box 6035, Ashburton 7742. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Zealand Spinal Trust would be appreciated and may be made at the service. A Memorial Service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at HiltonView, 1090 Earl Road, Hilton, Geraldine on Sunday, October 11, at 1.30pm. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend and the link will be found at www.memoryfunerals.nz (obituaries tab) or on our Facebook page.

Shirley was a loving and gracious lady who dedicated her life to her three children, two grandchildren and her nursing career.I will miss her wise counsel and friendship which goes back to the 1960s. Special love and sincere sympathy to Paul, Anne and Allan and their families. Your loss of your Mother will leave an unimaginable hole in your lives. You were privileged to have had Shirley as your Mum and she can be very proud of the children she has raised. My heart goes out to all. I will join with you in the live-stream of Sunday's celebration of Shirley's life. Much love from Lynette and family. xxxx

Shirley meant the world to me and my family. She embraced our American family with a loving heart. I loved her from the moment I met her. When my sister married Paul she let me know she was my mother-in-law too and I felt so lucky. Shirl, you have always been an inspiration to me. You are free from pain now but we aren’t. Love to all my Garnetts.

So sorry to hear the passing of a wonderful lady Shirley, I work with her for many years ,she was amazing R.N very kind and caring ,we had lots of laughs everyday ..Shirley had amazing family who care for her so much, thank you .she going to miss R.I.P marie Halsey
