Hello Julie and family. I was shocked and saddened to learn that Ross had died. My name is Judith Mackenzie and I am one of his 'cousins' from his birth father's family - my father was his birth uncle, Peter. We had never managed to meet up and that is now a very big regret on my side. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Such sad news to hear of Ross's sudden passing.
Margot and I knew Ross during our sons Dominic, Finlay and Adam's time at PNBHS and particularly their time in the 1st XI Football team. I travelled and assisted with organisation at tournaments with the team and also on an overseas trip to California and Hawaii. Ross was a great character, and I enjoyed his company especially over a few quiet drinks or during a movie night at our accommodation. He had a nice rapport with the team and was well respected. I particularly remember a visit to a Santa Barbara College where I sat in class while he presented an entertaining and interesting lecture in which the local students were totally engaged.
Our condolences to Julie, Meg and Reed and family, he will be missed.

Barry and I were very sad to read about the death of Ross. He was a caring and fun loving person who I had the privilege to work with at TBHS.

Julie our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Dear Stevenson family

I am deeply shocked and very sad to discover that Ross has departed so suddenly.
I was privileged to have Ross in more than one of my English classes at Waitaki Boys' High School and recall him as a quiet, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable member amongst my students. I was of course also very proud that he had distinguished himself as an English teacher and administrator; but more of course, as he justified his promotion to a senior position at Timaru Boys' High School.
It was a special pleasure that Ross, when visiting his father in a Rest Home in Oamaru, chose not only to visit my household in Oamaru, but also to stay with my wife and myself on more than one occasion. I was also able to talk with him about his Oamaru parents as I knew Vic as a golfer and (with Grace) as a parent on School parent evenings.. Whenever I saw Vic, he was immensely proud of Ross, as was I.
Only a matter of a few months ago, Ross called out to me in a Christchurch Mall. We sat and talked together for some time and conversation was always easy across the diversity of family and profession.
We bad each other farewell then as mutual friends, I am proud to say; my serious sorrow is to say Farewell again now, offering at the same time my deep condolences to Julie and to all family members.

Vale, Ross, good person.

I am so sad to hear this news. I first met Ross over 20 years ago when I worked with Julie at Feilding High School. He was funny, kind, inspirational and a great teacher (as is Julie). I later ran into Ross and Julie regularly at the Fairlie Show as they had moved to Timaru Boys and I was at Waitaki Girls. Ross was a larger than life character and I can't believe he's gone. My heart goes out to Julie, Reed and Meg. Kia kaha.

We were terribly shocked to hear of Ross´s sudden passing. The Syms´ family have many valued memories of Ross and Julie. Ross was a huge contributor to PNBHS, in and out of the classroom. His humour was infectious and he was always fully involved in staff activities which made him a popular colleague. Out of school we both enjoyed Ross and Julie´s company. Our son Josh has fond memories of Y13 English in Ross´s classroom. We send our deepest condolences and love to Julie, Reed and Meg.

I will always remember those times we shared when we were both so young. You were always so full of joy, fun and exuberance- you lifted the spirits of everybody around you.

I´m sorry we lost touch and I hope you are at rest now.

May your whanau know you were a great friend, and that memories (& the occasional photo!!) of you still live on and bring joy.

Our heartfelt sympathies to the whanau and friends of Ross.
