As the Environment Court's Jurisdiction manager during Roger's time there, and having closely worked with him during that period, he played an active and important part in discharging the court's functions. His humility and keen sense of humour are remembered with fondness. My condolences to the family

Our deepest sympathy to Bev and the family.
Such brilliant early memories of good times on the family farm at Ruapuna during the '60s.
Roger guided me, a ChCh boy, through the 'whys and wherefores' of farm life with great hilarity and fun.
I have always had a deep respect for Roger.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Bev.

As Regional Land Manager and then Planning Manager at the Canterbury Regional Council I had quite a lot to do with Roger during the development of various Council plans and strategies. He was always respectful, helpful and supportive of staff working on these documents, bringing his farming and other experiences to the Council table. This helped ensure that Council's policies and rules, especially those affecting land and water management were practical and workable, and allowed economic development while helping achieve environmental and other outcomes. One of the best Councillors I worked with.

Saddened to learn of Roger's passing - his contribution to community life cannot be underestimated. With Bev he formed a formidable partnership of community service - a life where he exemplified giving time to others and was a great supportive parent. His service to Ashburton College for many years was incisive and valued. He reflected the rural community and was a good friend to education and to me in our dual concerns for the college and young people. Will be missed by many in the. wider district. Our support to Beverley as well at this time
