Dear Chrissy Jude and Nicky and families,
Your Dad Murray was salt of the earth, such an incredible man who opened his home to me when I left college and moved to Temuka so many years ago He put up with all the giggling girls -make up, music and mayhem!! He always welcomed us with a quirky smile with comments of humour and warmth. Being a farm girl, everywhere I saw Prattley gates I felt proud to know him, he was so highly respected in the wider community and contributed generously to so many amazing projects.
Over the past few years I´ve had the wonderful opportunities to travel with him and Chrissy to Temuka for funerals unfortunately to say goodbye to old Temuka friends.Such a privilege to spend time in his car hearing his stories and recollections of days gone by. He had such an incredible memory and shared his full life and worked tirelessly in his workshop fixing and building helping and mentoring others. A true gentleman who has left his legacy with his beautiful family. A job well done Murray, but I know those Pearly gates will swing more freely with your hand on them Muzza. We were so blessed knowing you and send all our love, comforting prayers and enormous hugs to you Chrissy and family. May you be supported and sustained by all those wonderful memories and his everlasting love for his family.
Hugs Row Bill and the Pottinger family xxxx

You would have to go a long way to come across somebody more community minded than Murray. I knew him through working for him for around 15 years, and even after that Murray made the effort to maintain contact with me.
One couldn´t have asked for a better boss. He would allow you enough rope to hang yourself but I am sure as a result he extracted the best out of you as a result. If he wasn´t in that business he would have been a good psychologist. He knew what you were thinking before you did. And I had huge admiration on the way that he handled staff. Everyone got a second chance. I saw him handle situations where any other employer would have terminated the employment justifiably but not Murray. I never saw him lose his cool; he was a true gentleman.

Condolences to your family. Fond memories your dads workshop which in those days was beside your house on Denmark Street. We used to call in there on our way home from school and we were always made to feel welcome. RIP.

Quite a shock to read of former fellow Temuka Lions Club member Murrays passing, so glad Ruth & I have called into see him on our recent visits to Rangiora. A real gentleman with a great memory & sense of humour who will now be trying to convince St Peter to replace the Pearly Gates with his Prattley designed and manufactured ones.
