Murray GRINDLAY Obituary

Died suddenly on October 25, 2025, at home in Mosgiel, watching his favourite game of rugby; aged 79 years. Son of the late Cliff and Fran Grindlay, former husband of the late Janet (Jan) Henderson and much-loved brother to Garth (Gus) Grindlay and brother-in-law to Shirley. Murray was the much-loved husband of Fran and adored by Rosie the dog. Much loved father to Mark (in Glasgow). Treasured father to Karyn, Paul, and adored granddad to Ben and Louisa. Much loved father to Megan, Mike, special Morfar Muz to grandson Max and adored by Magnum the dog. Loving stepfather to Jeremy and Miriam (in London); to Gareth and Megan; and to Stephen and his children Dylan, Jessica and Laura. Muz was a passionate Kaikorai Rugby Football Club supporter and worked for many years at TVNZ/Natural History NZ. He was a loyal, great mate to many colleagues and members of the rugby and wider community. We'd like to sincerely thank the excellent first responders who assisted us and worked hard to help Murray. A service for Murray will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, at 11.00am, on Saturday, November 1, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donation to Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service. Messages to Fran Grindlay [email protected]

Earlier today

I worked with Murray at TVNZ Dunedin, I was Office Manager in the 80's and he was the Finance Guy and awesome Colleague. Loved having an ale on Friday's with Da Boss, sincere condolences to Mark, Karyn and Megan, you are all remembered also coming into Dads office at times. Sad that he lost Jan at an early stage. Murray was a great mate. RIP 'Claw' you were a great Man.

So sorry to hear that Murray has passed. This is how I remember him from back in the 1980's, when he was my boss. I think this photo was taken in 1983, at La Scala, where our Christmas Do was that year. My condolences to his loved ones.
