Max and Jill lived opposite the Browns in Harris street. I Babysat when they went out on the town !!!
Max introduced me to Gin and Tonic and I´ve been hooked ever since. I must share the day Mum and I were in Max´s office and he offered Mum a cuppa and her response was " I´ll have a G and T thanks Max , I always remember the look of surprise on his face. Over the years since I´ve left Waimate, whenever I visited the old town, I´d mostly catch up with Max and Jill. Last November, I caught up with them and was impressed with how alert Max was. It is with a sad heart for you Jill and family that I say my farewell to a fabulous man, who cared so much for his family and friends, and had a great sense of humour.
Rest In Peace Max. Hilary

It has always been a pleasure and fun to pop in and visit Max and Jill over many years. When we were neighbours in Harris street I loved to come and baby sit for Geoff, Nic and Mark while Jill and Max went out. Max was always full of good stories and had us in fits of laughter. Such fond memories and Max will remain in them forever. Rest in Peace Max. My loving thoughts to you Jill and family.

Dear Jill and family. I was very sad to read that Max had passed away. I have some very fond memories of Max in my Temuka days. Firstly we shared the same birthday, 23 September, for many years we always rang each other for our birthdays, Max spoke at my 21 first many many years ago. Max was a good friend of my dad when my dad was stock agent for Pyne Gould Guiness in Temuka. As a little girls we visited Max's parents in Guilds road Temuka if my memory serves me right. The last time I spoke to Max was after my brother Kelly died, I had always said I would visit the two of you in Waimate, I never did. There is an old saying, never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Old memories ring true at this sad time for all of you especially you Jill. I feel privileged to have known Max and Jill for all those years and occasionally something jumps into the memory, and today is one of them. Special loving thoughts and hugs are sent to you today JIll. Max was a very special person in my life all those years ago. Jan Oliver (nee Hewson) daughter of Jack and Zelda.
