John Kevin (Johnny):
On December 19, 2016, following a long illness, John died peacefully surrounded by family. Thank you for the outstanding care and compassion from the wonderful staff at Cashmere View Hospital. Beloved husband of Helen, treasured father of Diane, Tanya, Jacqueline, Vanessa and Jonathan, and grandfather of Sarah, Emmett, Eva, Theo, Joshua, Thomas, Keegan, India, William, Nicholas and Arden. John is a much-loved brother, father-in-law and friend to many. John's life will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 11.00am, at Christ the King, Greers Road, Ilam, Christchurch. A burial service will be held at Clyde Cemetery, Central Otago, on Friday, December 23, at 3.00pm. Messages to 820 Earnscleugh Road, Alexandra 9391 or [email protected]. Flowers respectfully declined. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's NZ.

Great memories of John as a schoolmate at SPHS where we were fellow prefects and teammates.He excelled in all sports especially rugby, swimming and athletics. He was also a groomsmsn at my wedding in 1958.
John was a top man and well respected by all who knew him.

John and I were schoolmates at St Pat's Timaru. He was an outstanding athlete excelling in swimming,athletics and especially rugby. I will always remember him scoring a marvellous try for our team at Fairlie when he ran the length of the field through the entire opposition fending them off with his great strength and speed.
He went on to represent South Canterbury at rugby and made history by being the captain of the team which beat the touring French team in 1961. It was the first time a South Canterbury team had ever beaten an overseas team.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family on the passing of a very memorable man and truly wonderful sportsman.
