Dear Leonie and family. Sad to hear of the passing of "The Legend". He loved to yarn and his dry wit would have me laughing every time. John will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to you all as you try to come to terms with your loss.

To Leonie & wider Norton family
Very shocked to read of John's passing - a very positive man whom had the Community at heart
Enjoyed his catch ups and chats and enjoyed Coaching him (except Triple Jump or should I note TJ wasn't kind to him)
A very succesful Businessman
John was very proud of his Family and their accomplishments, especially Scott (Harlequinns, SC & NZ Heartland) , Willie Heinz (England, Crusaders, Canterbury) & George (Celtic Prems)
An excellent Sportsman himself re Rugby ( I have heard it from very good sources, a top player in Christchurch Premier Club Rugby ), Cycling, Golf, Athletics and loved his Horse Racing.
A larger than life Community man - he will sorely be missed
Treasure the Memories
Thinking of You All at this very sad time
RIP
Kind Regards

Dear Leonie and family,
We were shocked and very sad to hear John had passed away - a real battler no longer suffering. Our sincere sympathy on the sudden loss of a wonderful husband and soulmate - such a perfect match. He was a great mate for 40+ years. We always enjoyed his company, amazing dry wit and the stories he told - cherished memories of the many special times we had with John and you when we lived in Timaru. So very sorry we are unable to be at John's funeral as we are in Queensland. R.I.P. mate/dear friend. Our thoughts are with you and the family Leonie and may the love of family and friends help you through this saddest and difficult time in your lives. All our love, Ross and Carol.

I remember John well. We played in Burnside RFC s first side to play in the Top division of the Canterbury Metro Comp in 1973. He was a lovely even tempered guy, a great fellow to be around. I know some of the family and share their sorrow. I am unable to attend the funeral but am thinking of the family on that sad day. I wish the family well for the coming times. Dubsy Christchurch

To Leonie and family - our sincere condolences with the passing of John, the "Husband of the Year" as he so proudly referred to himself as - amongst other titles!!! John was a top bloke who was a delight to be around and always had a story. An excellent sportsman who was a determined and tough competitor. Only a few weeks back he was at Gleniti practicing his chipping and putting during an interval in his harsh treatment. John, you will be missed by many many people who knew you. RIP my friend.

Sending you my love Leonie and family. He was such a character and I loved the cheeky banter we had. I met you both at Social Welfare in the 90's where John loved to walk around the office yarning to the staff. He loved to 'network' with people. He will be missed by many people. RIP John!

Dear Leonie & families. So very sorry to hear this sad news. `John the Legend´ had such a fantastic, dry sense of humour. He always made me laugh. Taken way too soon. Treasure all your lovely memories and photos. Thinking of you all from England. Karina & Dave
