Dear Karen and family, so sad to read of Johns passing. We have such lovely memories of all those great family times together up at the lakes over the years and boating in the sounds. John was the life and soul of any party and when he was playing his guitar around the camp fire we all sung our hearts out reading from your songbooks. Such a great man who will be missed. Sending much love to you all. Peter, Linda, Jonathan and Cassie Low.

On Behalf of the Blewett family we would like to express how sad we are to hear of the passing of John Brooks. Karen Alan and the whole family have lost a giant of a man.
Mum, Beverly Blewett used to look after John as mum was 9 years older and John was more like a little brother to Mum.
They both got the mumps at the same time and John just loved to play with Beverly´s dolls.
John was a big man with a larger-than-life loveable character.
A clever man
A practical man and a funny man, honestly a typical Brooks.
We had the pleasure of spending time with John and Karen when they parked their massive bus on our driveway. John was very proud of his bus and all the custom work that he had done and went on to build and even bigger bus.
We have not spent enough time with John over the last 80 years however the time we had was always fun and interesting and have left lasting memories. I do regret not sailing with him as this was one of his number of passions, we both sheared.
We do know wherever you are john you will be, making fixing or changing something and looking for your prized fishing rod.
Rest in peace Dear john you have left us with lasting memories.

John was a good man, a knowledgeable man, and a great father to his children.
I remember spending many hours with John enjoying a beer, or a rum while discussing electronics, boats or busses and many other things.
Camping with them at Waitangi and going sailing on his boat. Barbecues in the back yard, and parties at the Savage club.
In more recent years, meeting up with John and Karen on the road somewhere and having coffees in their bus.
Lots of laughs, lots of memories.
Now he's gone, he's free, at peace, no more pain, no more suffering. He will be sadly missed by many, but his stories and his legacy will go on.
Rest in peace John, we'll be thinking of you often.

My sincere condolences to Karen and all the family. We were childhood friends who played, laughed, fished and had a lot of fun in the sun in those tender years as small boys and teenagers at the Rangitata Huts. Never forget you old friend, so sorry to learn of your passing.
