On December 20, 2025, at Dunedin, surrounded by loved ones sharing memories, songs, laughter and tears; aged 87 years. Loved husband of Genny. Cherished father of Anne-Marie, John, Justin, Christopher, Gerard, and Matthew and their spouses. Adored grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 3. Second son of the late Joe and May Hanning. Loving brother to his eight siblings; a loved brother-in-law of the Newman family, and loved uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Tony lived a rich and generous life dedicated to the service of others. A true gentleman, deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Requiescat in Pace.

Requiem Mass for Tony will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, Great King Street, Dunedin North, at 11.00am on Wednesday, December 24, the burial will take place at 2.30pm on Monday, December 29, at the Lower Shotover Cemetery, Queenstown. In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Quality would be appreciated. Messages can be left on Tony's page at www.hopeandsons.co.nz where there is a link to the Mass.

Thinking of you, Genny, and all the family as you mourn for Tony and share many memories at Christmas time. I worked in the Diocesan Office for nine years and remember Tony and his enthusiasm for Catholic Education. He often mentioned Lions and told us about Camp Quality also.
