Elizabeth Ethel (Bessie)
(nee Hobbs):
Late of Gore, Timaru and Owaka. Bessie passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022 at Holmdene Rest Home, Balclutha, in her 99th year. She was the dearly loved wife of the late Ray Waddell, and a much-loved mother and mother-in-law of Glenda and Chris Landreth (Owaka), and Lynn Craig and Ken Young (Orbost, Australia). Bessie was a devoted Grandma and Granny Bess to Matt and Hedda Landreth and the late Eliana (Wellington), Sam and Rachael Landreth, Cooper, Brooklyn, and Mitchell (Owaka), Tim and Debbie Landreth, Joshua, Olivia and Sienna (Wyndham), Katie and Sacha Mobarak, Xavier and Max (New York), and Dan Craig and Disu Liang, Li Lian and Lia (Canberra).
"And underneath are the everlasting arms". The family wish to thank the staff of Holmdene who cared for Bessie with great compassion over the last 4 years, Dr A. Visagie and also the Catlins Medical Centre.A service to honour Bessie's life will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 1.00pm in the Owaka Memorial Community Centre, followed by a private cremation. Donations to the Owaka St John Ambulance Service would be appreciated and may be left at Bessie's service. Messages to Chris and Glenda Landreth, PO Box 12, Owaka 9546.

Bessie was a much loved and respected sister and sister-in-law of Elsie* and Arthur* Cox, Rita* and Sid* Nichols, Max* and Ella* Hobbs, Henry* and Adeline* Hobbs, and Jack* and Kay* Waddell. She was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
