On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, as the result of an accident. Most dearly loved husband, friend and soulmate of his Dorothy Anne and the late Allison. Much loved father and father-in-law of Sarah, Mark and Mel (Ireland). Loved Grandad of the late Tony; Amy, Shantelle, Olivia, Ariana, Harley; Keelan, Leah, Kara and Rian, and loved great-grandad. Loved step-dad of Karyn and Gary, Sue and Glyn, and Joanne and Jason. Loved Grandfather (Don) of Sam, Emma, Cameron, and Charlotte. Special thanks to Sergeant Bryan Ennis of the Waimate Police for his incredible support. A service to celebrate Don's life will be held at Aoraki Funeral Home, 11 John Street, Waimate, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 2.00pm. Messages to: 46 Mill Road, Waimate 7924. In lieu of flowers, donations to St John Ambulance would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

This is very sad news about a fine gentleman whose passion was to share news in the rural setting of Waimate. I remember Don my first boss in my first job as a journalist in approx 1978 as a kind and fair man. My job was not only to sleuth out the drama, the interesting and the hidden gems of intrigue, but also I was the racing tips guesser and possibly the horoscope writer. Strange as that may be for a cub reporter it is a source of joyful memories for me now I like Don follow in my later years. This is a very sad time and my heart goes out to Don's wife and family. He was a good passionate yet go cussed man who truly loved Waimate and this beautiful town lost a great totara this year. Kind regards Sue Lytollis.
