Audrey WILLIAMS Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 11, 2025, surrounded by love, after a long and well-lived life. She was 96.

Dawn was a much-loved wife, mother, nana, and great-nana, whose quiet strength, warmth and kindness shaped the lives of her family across generations. She was the beloved wife of Alan Williams, who passed away on March 3, 2021, and together they shared a life grounded in devotion, resilience, and family.

She was a deeply loved Mum to Grant, Felicity, Brent, Jacqui, Jenny, Doug, Geoff, Chris, and Debbie, and a cherished Nana to Clemency, Yann, Sam, Coco, Adrian, Tim, Meg, Ben, Jono, Amanda, Alie, Olivia, Matthew, Harrison, Sonia, and Alicia. She was also a treasured Great-Nana to Pierre, Gabou, Lily, Hinoki, and Keyaki, each of whom brought her great joy.

Born in New Zealand, Dawn lived through extraordinary times and met life with steadiness, humility, and an unwavering sense of care for others. She was thoughtful, and deeply family-centred. She found great happiness in Scottish country dancing, where her energy and grace shone, and she loved knitting, gardening, and long walks, pursuits that reflected her patience, creativity, and appreciation of the simple pleasures of life.

Dawn was a devoted and long-standing member of the Timaru Methodist Church, where she gave generously of her time over many years. Her faith was lived quietly but consistently, expressed through service, kindness, and a willingness to support others. Her many hours of voluntary work were deeply valued and left a lasting impact on her church community.

In recent years, her relationships with her children deepened further, marked by shared reflection, and affection. Dawn faced her final weeks with courage and calm acceptance. Even as her health declined, moments of warmth, recognition, and gentle humour remained, reminders of the woman she had always been. Her passing was peaceful, and she is now at rest.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. The family extend heartfelt thanks to the medical staff and carers who supported Dawn with compassion, dignity, and care.

A private gathering will be held in Christchurch this weekend. Those who would like the details are warmly invited to reach out to the family to join for a cuppa.

On behalf of Timaru Scottish Country Dance Club we send our sincere sympathies to Dawn's family. Our Club celebrated its 70th birthday with a social dance in September, and Dawn was fondly remembered, along with other former dancers, for having had a long relationship with our Club. We had attempted to follow up family connections but were unsuccessful as we wanted Dawn to receive a celebratory invitation. Thank you Dawn for sharing your love of Scottish country dancing in friendship and fellowship with us all.
Kindest regards - Timaru Club members xo
