Condolensces on Bill's death. I had hoped to come up today but will be unable to. I was pleased I had managed to get to see Bill two weeks ago on my way to Christchurch and was not surprised he had gone soon after. He was a wonderful partner for my dad in Traves and Ward for so many faithful years, a constant friend after and a pall bearer for dad's funeral. Allan Davidson who married Margaret Stringer described Bill to me as 'salt of the earth' a view I also hold.

I am sorry to hear of Bills passing. It was a privilege to meet him again last month after many years and find he was as sharp as ever.
Please accept my condolences and my apologies for not being able to attend the funeral.
